When it comes to injectable cosmetic treatments, you have plenty of choices today. These procedures are fast, relatively painless and can offer dramatic results. However, the multitude of choices can also make it difficult for you to know which injectable formulation will provide you with the best results. For many patients, Juvederm is the injectable of choice, but there are a few things about this formulation you need to know before you request it at your next appointment.

Dermal Fillers vs. Neuromodulators

Both dermal fillers, like Juvederm or Restylane, and neuromodulators, like Botox or Dysport, are used in anti-aging treatments. It is important to understand the difference between the two, so you can get the best formulation for your specific needs. Dermal fillers provide support to the underlying skin structure, smoothing away wrinkles from the inside out and adding volume where it may have dissipated over the years. Fillers tend to work best on treating wrinkles in the lower half of the face, such as those that form around the nose, mouth, and chin, or adding volume to the cheeks.

Neuromodulators, like Botox or Dysport, work by relaxing the facial muscles that lead to the formation of wrinkles. These medications are usually recommended for wrinkles in the upper half of the face, including the forehead and around the eyes. Your injector will be able to help you determine which type of anti-aging treatment will work best for you.

Benefits of Hyaluronic Acid

Juvederm and Restylane products all fall into the category of hyaluronic acid fillers. Hyaluronic acid is a substance naturally produced by the body that helps the skin retain moisture and its smooth, supple appearance. As we age, hyaluronic acid levels drop, leading to skin laxity, dry skin and the formation of wrinkles. By restoring hyaluronic acid to the underlying dermal layers, we can turn back the clock with results that are smooth, natural and beautiful.

Options in the Juvederm Line

When you select Juvederm as your filler of choice, you have additional options within the line, so that we can tailor the formulation to your specific needs. Options in the Juvederm line include:

  • Juvederm XC – this formulation is specifically designed to smooth away wrinkles around the nose and mouth, including smile lines and nasolabial folds
  • Juvederm Ultra XC – an even smoother formulation that effectively and naturally adds volume and definition to the lips
  • Juvederm Voluma – a long-lasting filler that restores youthful volume and definition to the cheekbones
  • Juvederm Volbella – a long-lasting filler that adds volume and definition to the lips, as well as softens the lines around the mouth

At Dermacare Laser & Skin Care Center, we offer a variety of Juvederm fillers for our patients. Dr. Birchall and our other highly qualified injectors can help you determine which product will provide you with the best possible results.

The Juvederm Procedure

Juvederm injections take just a few minutes to complete and there is very little discomfort involved. Topical anesthetic can be applied for lip injections to minimize discomfort. After the procedure, you can immediately return to your regular schedule. The results of the injections will be evident right away and should continue for 6-12 months. At that point, you will need to schedule another Juvederm treatment to maintain your youthful appearance.

Is Juvederm the Right Choice for You?

While Juvederm is an excellent dermal filler with a number of unique benefits, this isn’t the right procedure for everyone.
